Jewelry Project Honduras Missions: When it rains it pours!

Our group has shrunk. Today we lost three members of our team. The doctors from the US, Bobby and Asha, who were here for the medical center had to go back for prior commentments they had. We also lost Dr. Panco, now he is an interesting man. Dr. Panco is a Honduran doctor we met at the airport on Tuesday. After talking with himhe told us he was free the next two days and he jumped rigt into be a part of our group. He voulenteers all year, going from village to village helping with different medical clinics and not only that he was also an Olympic finalist. In the 1980's he ran in the final of the 400 meter.

Bobby and Asha left for the airport at about 3:00am and Dr. Panco left for his next clinic around 6:00am. Th team started waking up aroung 6:30-7:00 to get started for our day. We left for Agua Augria at about 8:30 after loading the truck full of the food we would be breaking down. When we arrived at the church we broke into teams: construction, food, and clothing. I worked with the clothing team. We quickly began "organizing" the clothing i to womens, mens, and childrens. While we were doing that the food team was breaking down the food into smaller bags that will allow a family of 5 to eat for about a week. It took us most of the morning to accomplish all the organization, then the real fun began! Families began entering, each family revieved an outfit for every person, a food bag, a hygine pack, and a Spanish Bible. Even with the organization it was very difficult looking for clothing, we had tons of shirts but we lacked on pants, shorts, skirts, etc. Somewhere around 1:390 I looked at my phone and realized that I still hadn't ate lunch, so I took a break for my lunch. Soon it started raining...now I am not talking about a sprinkle...it was pouring! With the tin roof we had a difficult time hearing anything that was being said, but on the bright side the language barrier was gone since no one heard anyone! The rain in many ways was such a blessing because it reall cooled down the area. A few of us even went out to cool off in the rain, which was fantastic! Around 3:00 I went out to help load the truck with the extra medicion we had left (we are doing another medial center in Tegucigulpa). We had a bunch of kids who were so excited to help us load the truck and bus. They were in our assembly line laughing and giggling througout the entire process. It was great seeing the excitment on their faces. After loading the bus I was able to play with the kids some before going back to help with clothing. We played the had game Este el sal juego for a long time, the kids always seem to love that game!

At 4:00 I went back to help with the clothing again. There was one little girl that just melted my heart when she recieved her outfit. We gave her a beautiful black and pink dress with flowers and her face just lit up with joy. At 5:00 we had to leave, those working with us at the church took over to had out food and clothing for the line that was still formed outside the church. All together we handed out clothing to about 300 people and we had food bags for 150 families.

In the evening we went to the mall for dinner. I had some chinese, it was very tasty. Then we walked around the mall and I was super excited to see a frozen yogurt place that has the best ice cream! At this ice cream shop you choose a fruit and they hace the actual friuit frozen, then it is crushed and mixed with some frozen vanilla yogurt, it is SO good! I would have taken a picture but I was so excited I forgot, I will next time we goto the mall. :-)

At devo Wyatt talked about Peters obedience in God. Peter was the only one who was willing to go out on the water with Jesus. He was the only one who put his obedience in action by going and walking on the water for a short time. His focus did falter a little when he took his eyes off Jesus but even then he cried out for help and Jesus was there to catch him. Many times we have faith in Christ but our focus can be broken and we will falter. The most importsnt thing is that we must always look back to Christ because he will always be waiting to welcome us back with open arms.
