The Building From 1510

As many of you know from reading my blog in the past Sunday is a day of rest down here in Honduras. We do not work on Sunday, usually it is the day that we go and do our shopping. This year is no different. We went to Mi Esperanza and then to the Valley of Angels.

First we went to Mi Esperanze. Lori and  her friend started Mi Esperanza 15 years ago. It is exciting that in the 14 years that I have been coming I have seen the growth of Mi Esperanza and the good that it is creating here in Honduras. Putting a job and money into the hands of the mothers in Honduras is creating change. Anyone in the states interested in supporting Mi Esperanza can buy their merchandise at www.thewomenofmyhope.org . They have many amazing products and when you buy from Mi Esperanza the money goes towards helping the women of Honduras.

After Mi Esperanza we went out for lunch and then to the Valley. This year I walked around with my roomies April, Beth, Theresa, and Tara and also Cassidy, Chad, and Jake from State Farm. I was really excited to buy a hammock ofter 14 years of coming down this is my very first hammock....I had to by it it was Pittsburgh colors haha! We also got some of the delicious ice cream bars and we got some delicious coffee from a coffee shop.

Best chicken ever!

Walking the streets in the Valley

The coffee shop was a really interesting place. A son runs the shop and it is in honor of his father who was in the Honduran air force. There were pictures all around the shop. His fathers parachute was a decoration on the ceiling. In my 14 years it was the first time I got to see this coffee shop and it was really interesting to see. I will definitely go back there in the future!

After shopping at the Valley we went out to Santa Lucia. Santa Lucia is the oldest church building in the Western Hemisphere. We use to always visit this church however a few years ago when they changed priests we were not allowed in due to the fact that we are not Catholic. However last year they changed priests again and now we are able to go back, and thank goodness because the singing in that building is AMAZING! The church was built in 1510. Christopher Columbus is the one who ordered that the church be built and he was one of the first people to worship in the building.

The only portion of the wall left from the original painting in 1510.
This was done with berries or anything else they could find.

We took a collection for Gale Davidson's ministry this morning.
We raised over $1,800 for her work in the medical clinics.

This is the first time we were able to goto this church during the day. It was amazing to have some Hondurans come in with us and join us in praising Christ. Even if they didn't understand the language.

After singing we came back to the mission house and had some Taco Loco. We enjoying Taco Loco just about every year. It is some good food.
