What Not To Do In Honduras

What a wonderful day we had yesterday! We had a team work at Didasko painting, a team putting on a VBS, a food distribution team, and a house build team.

I am so proud of Hannah, she has really been thriving down here.

One thing  you might quickly learn in Honduras is to be careful who you decided to play a prank on. My friend Jose played a prank on Tim Hines during this first trip (He has been down here for about 3 weeks now) and therefore "The Alliance" as they are known has taken it upon themselves to get back at him. When he joined our group his clothing and everything else in his suitcase disappeared and was replaced with some baby clothing. Each morning he has been receiving a gift form the alliance....

I am one of the leaders of the VBS team this year. The other day the team worked hard getting everything ready for our VBS skits and crafts. Today we were able to drive out to Didasko to put VBS on for the kids there. 

On the way to Didasko I had to work on writing and translating the Adam and Eve puppet skit that we were doing. Nothing like being last minute here in Honduras. We originally were going to do something different but decided to change it all around. We also had to figure out a way to make our serpent puppet because we did not have one, so I quickly took my sock off, drew on eyes and added a pipe cleaner tongue.

Once we arrived at Didasko the VBS crew practiced the skit a few times and then we were able to play with a few of the kids who were not in school. Around 12:00 the other kids got out of school and went to lunch and then VBS was on.

For the days of creation we had someone act out each of the days of the week. For day one we had a flashlight, day two we threw water on Brandy, day three we had some flowers/trees/grass made, day 4 we had a sun, moon, and stars taped all over Kassidy, day five we had someone do a bird caw out across the stage while flapping their wings, and day six Holly and I acted like a few different animals while the kids guessed what we were and we had Caleb throw dust while Ryan jumped out from under his legs; making man from dust.

The kids at Didasko are some of my favorite kids in Honduras. I was able to see Norma, Rosa, and Catarina again this year. Three sisters that I have known for the past few years in Honduras. After VBS we were able to play with the kids for about 3 hours, which was wonderful! We painted nails, threw frisbee, tossed a ball, ran around, played on the playground, etc. It was such a wonderful time, I will let some of the pictures show you want we did throughout the day.

Another important rule in Honduras is not to lose your things. Sometimes people learn this the hard way. Isabelle was one of those people. She misplaced her journal and it was found by some of the head people. Therefore the only way for her to get it back was to sing I'm a Little Teapot or give her best Jenny Lovell impression.
