We have one team winding down and another team starting up. The first team got to soend the day shopping at Mi Esperanza and the new team did one of three things: a house build, a nospital run, and a food distrabution/visit special needs orphanage team. I chose to go to the food and special needs orphanage. We spent the morning at the Mission House sorting food into small bags to hand out. I worked with Luke bagging rice. After breaking down the food we began ourn"trick or treating" adventure. Each food bag would recieve sugar, tomato paste, rice, flour, salt, lard, coffee, boyan cubes. These bags will feed a famiky of 5 for about a week. We finished up packing the bags around 11:30 and had lunch before setting out for the village.
We drove out to the La Tigre rainforest and divided into teams. It was quite an adventure because I was a translator for my group. We walked quite a ways and it was beautiful! My group probably handed out about 45-50 bags before we realized it was after 2:00, our bus had at least an hour drive to pick up the crew building the house. So we rounded up everyone and headed out the the special needs orphanage.
The special need orphanage is new from the one we visited in the past. It opened up in September of last year. It is literally about a ten minute walk from the Mission House. Total the orphanage has about 30 kids between the ages of 6-20. Unlike the other special needs place we visit the kids will stay at the facility for the remainder of their lives. There was one boy who we recognized from the other special needs that now lives at this new one. I spent my time with a boy named William, he was so cute but I had an awful time getting him to smile. It took me all the way up to about 20 minutes before we left to finally get him to smile. I wish I had a picture to let you see of how he lit up.
The evening had a wonderful event today, we had a baptism. Luke is a young man who was born in Honduras and then was adopted and moved to the USA when he was only 1. For quite a few years he has been wanting to come and visit Honduras to see where he csme from, so he began to google. He typed in Mission Trips Honduras in the search bat and we were tne third one. He said after looking through our pictures he felt that our group was the best one for him tl join so he started emailing and calling different people, and now here he is. It has been amazing to watch him as he has grown over the time on this trip. On Sunday during Jeremys devo he really began thinking and decided he wanted to talk about where his life was going. After these talks he chose he was in need of Christ in his life and Jeremy baotized him last night. God is good, all the time. And all the time, God is good!
Sorry for not posting the other morning, I typed it up but forgot to hit the send! Today we built three houses, worked in the day care, and sent a team to the hospital.
I was in a house building team at Mololoa. As soon as we pulled up I saw my boy Franklin, he is getting so big. Sadly when we divided the house crews ne went to a different house build. The house build I was on was very contained, we did not have much room to move around, in fact our wood was inside of another house because there was not room for it. We got started right away, I worked with a Honduran named Fernando, together we dug about 6 post holes. Soon the house was coming together, we were putting the walls up, then the floor, and the Honduran men got up on the roof to do that. Over all the build went prett well but it definitly was a challenge getting the wood down to where it needed to be put on the house, we had to do a lot of flip flopping on the wood.
