When It Rains It Pours

Work day number "2" is out of the way. Although it is my first work day.
We broke off into 5 teams:
3 house builds
Medical
VBS

I of course was on one of the 3 house builds. We built out in a new community near where the dump is. We build for a family of 4 people, Jessica, Samuel, Kelsey, and Samuel.

Bus ride

Building this year is much more of a challenge then in years past simply because we have SO many newbies this year. My group had a lot of younger kids but they worked very hard and we were able to get it done.

No hospital trips this year!

Getting the walls up.

Working on one of the walls.

Water break....the house was coming along nicely.

We were digging in a mud similar to clay, which made for a bit of difficulty getting all the posts dug...it took us till about 11 to get all 4 of our posts set. After getting them set the walls stared going up pretty quickly. The day was really a wonderful day, cloudy and not too hot... up until about 1:30 when it began POURING! We still did not have the roof up so needless to say we were soaking wet by the end of the house build. I don't think anyone had  a dry part on them.

Mark brought us some watermelon.

When your short you simply climb until you can reach to continue nailing.

Scott and I were working outside of the house cutting angles when it started pouring. It was so difficult to see to nail in the top angle pieces because it was raining so hard! The rain also added the challenge of everything being muddy...remember that clay....well it stuck onto my sneakers like they were platform shoes, haha. After about every 2 steps I had to try to get some of the mud off so I wouldn't lose all my traction. We finished the house around 3:45/4:00. We then had a very nice mile-mile in a half walk back up the mountain because once it started raining the buses had to go up so they wouldn't get stuck at the end of the day.
The house! Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this house possible! You put this family into a house. You put this family out of the rain yesterday! We came and built it but YOU are the ones who made that possible.

I got myself a nice little mud tan.

Starting our hike back up the mountain.

This evening we celebrated the 4th of July, as we always do! They got us a delicious cake and some ice cream.

Tables set up to celebrate!

Our delicious cake!

We have a large number of kids this year. I think there is total of 7 or 8 kids. They had a really good time playing with the balloons that were on all of the tables.

After everyone went to bed I stayed up a little while and got all the Barnabas notes taped up.
Ready for some warm and fuzzy notes!
